July 18 Southgate Pharmacy & Infusion Center

When I left the BMT unit at Methodist two weeks ago it was with a bag of pills and no IV pole. Imagine my frustration last week when informed that a virus had showed up that requires infusion. Not to worry. Home health care delivers the goods. With no written instructions for the next 24 hours following the delivery of boxes and a pole I experienced infusion 101.

When not properly hooked to the line infusion bag contents spill on the floor. The telescoping 6 foot pole can slip to 2 feet in seconds. Pole wheels not properly attached roll off. And if the gravity flow system is not clamped off immediately when the bag empties, reverse gravity occurs and a potential donation to the local blood center takes place. Five days later now that I qualify for nurse assistant infusion compatible activities are: reading, eating chocolate, phone talk, lunch, email, chocolate, fold laundry, CNN, and counting the days. Onward.........SS
